  • Discussion around having a coach teach an FSEM – ways to assist with the academic advising component for those students.
  • Discussion around the new policy to have FSEM instructors be removed from advisor role after the Spring semester – working on process for warm handoff to Jen Cirbus
  • No proposals are currently submitted
  • Discussed the potential for mechanisms for having additional classes for the second 8-week term
  • One idea is to have the courses ‘embargoed’ (in that they won’t be eligible for registration until after the main 15-week add/drop period)
  • Staffing was presented as a concern, but the group was generally supportive of the idea since it would help with many potential financial aid problems
  • Discussed revisions to the overall First Year Experience
  • Reviewed the Strategic Plan and how it relates to the First-Year Experience
  • Revisited a proposal from the First-Year Experience Revision Advisory Committee from Fall 2024 – Spring 2025
  • Discussed the potential role of a High Impact Practices (HIP) course in the Spring semester of the first year
  • Proposals are required to be in by October 16th and will be discussed at the November First Year Experience meeting

Our subsequent meetings are November 4, and December 2 at 3:30 p.m. in HCC 310.
